One day we’re young(er) and carefree, dreaming of owning the world and the next we wake up unsure of who we’re married to and what we’re supposed to be doing each day.

We’ve lived enough life to experience incredible, and hard things -- so we know that when our life transitions, it changes us.

Although maybe now, you’re just starting to explore this phenomenon.

For me, the three most pivotal years in my life have all happened fairly recently.

2006. 2016. 2020.

They were all years that everything changed in my life. Nearly at once.

In 2006 my twins were born. I don’t even need to explain why this year tops the list.

In 2016, I turned 50. I know it’s not the birthday everyone gets worked up about usually, but for me it wasn’t the year. It was everything else.

My career ended. I started a long-distance relationship. My twins were 10 at this point, and my parents were both ill.

And 2020 makes the list probably for all the reasons that it makes yours. Except for me, among the chaos last year brought, it also sank my travel business overnight when the world shut down for nearly a year.

What no one talks about is how we don’t have to write off our life at middle age. That these life-shifting events, relationships and moments don’t define the rest of our lives.
